BCBSF introduced its physician recognition program, Recognizing Physician Excellence (RPE), in September 2004. The intent of the program is to recognize and reward physicians committed to delivering quality care and excellent service to their patients. Performance is measured through an extensive development of metric measurements and categorized into two components:
- Clinical Quality – The RPE program rewards physicians for outstanding and improved performance through the measurement of nationally accepted evidence-based guidelines for clinical quality metrics.
- Process Improvement – Physicians who participate in the RPE program enhance their patient relationships through the use of e-capabilities, training and education programs and patient safety and satisfaction.
Eligible physicians include high member volume primary care specialists (family practice, general practice, internal medicine, pediatric medicine, geriatric, and obstetrics and gynecology) who participate in NetworkBlue. Physicians participating in the RPE program are identified in the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida online provider directory by the "RPE" icon.
