Childhood obesity is a growing problem throughout Florida, with 33.1 percent of children ages 10-17 overweight or obese; nationally, the percentage is 30.6 percent.
The Blue Foundation created Embrace a Healthy Florida to address the causes of childhood obesity that goes beyond the traditional nutrition and fitness programs.
Embrace a Healthy Florida is a statewide program that will provide grants to nonprofit organizations, fund research and foster community collaboration and engagement. The strategic effort will focus on five regions: Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, Tallahassee and Tampa.

The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida's mission is to enhance access to quality health-related services for Floridians, with an emphasis on the uninsured and underserved.
To align our Competitive Grants program name with the mission of The Blue Foundation, we have renamed our Competitive Grants program to "Improving Access to Health Care grants program" or "IMPACT Health Care grants."
In addition, we launched a new online application process to streamline our grantmaking, and to make the process easier and paperless, thereby reducing costs for all.

The first five years
In 2006, The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida funded an evaluation of its grant activities and the programs supported since its first year of grantmaking in 2001. The results of that study were released in July 2007, in a report entitled, The Blue Foundation for a Healthy Florida: Grant Activities to Date, July 2007 (PDF).
