• November is American Diabetes Month. - Diabetes is a disease caused by the body's inability to make enough insulin or use it effectively. Without enough insulin, sugar in your blood stream called glucose, cannot get into your body's cells to feed them. When this happens, your blood sugar rises and leads to pre-diabetes or diabetes. • Affordable Health Cards available at Winn-Dixie and CVS/pharmacy! - Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida is the first to offer Health Cards where you shop. Our Health Cards make it easy to get the health care that you and your family members need - at a price you can afford. Look for our display in the pharmacy of your local Winn-Dixie store and in CVS/pharmacy in November.
• H1N1 (swine flu) - The H1N1 flu virus (also known as swine flu) continues to spread throughout the U.S. and around the world. The H1N1 flu virus spreads from person-to-person, similar to the way that regular seasonal flu viruses spread. As we move into the time of year for seasonal flu, BCBSF wants to help you and your family stay well.
• Health care reform - Health care reform is the number one issue in our country and the ongoing debate will continue to intensify with Congress returning from its recess next week.
